artist statement
i like to work in layers.
Writing something personal, then making it illegible.
Adding onto or completely covering an artist’s previous work.
Cutting an image up and using the pieces to mosaic something new.
Making a new pattern to interrupt another.
i hid something for you here.
artist bio
Eric Klein, dba ebjk art, is a Chicago-based abstract artist known for his experimental style and positivity-driven paintings. Self-taught, Eric began in 2017 when a wine and paint shop closed and gave away their abandoned canvases. Already having starting ideas or images down on canvas, Eric viewed painting over them as a conversation between himself and the original artist. In 2021, he began to display his work locally, and in 2023 ebjk Art was formed. While he now works primarily on fresh canvases, Eric still incorporates multiple interacting layers of imagery and writing for the audience to discover over time. His latest works take his previously destroyed paintings and creates new ones with the pieces.
